Putin instructed to make double payments to frontline doctors combatting COVID-19 during holidays

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to make payments to doctors who will work with coronavirus patients on New Year's holidays at a double rate. The decision on double payments to doctors, including presidential payments for coronavirus risks, was made by the president at the suggestion of the United Russia party, TASS reports.

Putin recalled that double salaries are due for work on holidays, including for doctors working in COVID hospitals.

"This certainly must be done; this is a requirement of the law," Putin stressed.

At the same time, he noted that the Labor Code did not provide a similar increase in additional payments for doctors involved in the fight against the coronavirus.

"In this regard, I think that at least on these long New Year holidays, we need to pay these social benefits in double size," the president said, underlining that this is justified both socially and from a justice point of view: vaccination of medical workers has just begun, so they are "not yet protected enough".

"This will need to be done; I ask the government to organize this work and make an appropriate decision as soon as possible," Vladimir Putin said.

Earlier it was reported that on Wednesday, the President of Russia at a joint meeting of the State Council and the Council for National Projects supported the United Russia idea to make December 31 a day off throughout the country.
