Construction of new infectious disease center has entered home stretch in Sterlitamak

The construction of a new clinical and diagnostic Infectious Disease Center in Sterlitamak has entered the home stretch. The hospital, with an area of about 14 thousand square meters, will receive its first patients in December. There will be 70 isolated wards, and the peak capacity can reach 300 patients. There will also be maternity and children's departments, a surgical unit, a bacteriological laboratory, and a tomography department in addition to the usual wards and intensive care wards. The hospital will also have a helipad for medical aviation. Today, almost a thousand people and more than 80 units of equipment work on the construction site, which is ongoing around the clock, said foreman Alexander Gulyaev.
In total, 400 specialists will work here for the period of the pandemic. Work on a rotational basis will also be organized for doctors from nearby cities with experience in the "red zones" of COVID hospitals. Accommodation in a hostel is organized for specialists. The Sterlitamak administration will also provide 10 municipal apartments. The new center will be multifunctional; after the end of the pandemic, it can be redesigned.
"We really need a hospital in Sterlitamak to treat patients with the coronavirus from all over the southern medical district. As soon as we open it, we release the rest of the city's hospitals to treat non-COVID patients. We are building the Sterlitamak hospital taking into account the practices of a similar center near Ufa. For example, now there will be toilets in the wards and the corridors as we understand that in the event of a peak of infections, people can lie there too. We are ready and mobilized for any situation, " said the Head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, after a working meeting at the construction site of the COVID hospital in Sterlitamak last Saturday.
All construction and installation work should be completed by December 1.
