Сontainer transportation by rail is growing in Bashkiria

From January to May 2020, 73,000 standard 20-foot freight containers were transported on the Kuybyshev railway, including the territory of Bashkiria, which is 3.2% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, the volume of transported goods amounted to 930 thousand tons, which is 12% higher than last year's level and testifies to the growing demand for universal cargo containers.

Among the types of cargo, the largest increase by January-May 2019 was recorded in container transportation of timber (an increase of 2.6 times), oil and oil products (+ 38.5%), machinery, machine tools and engines (+ 32.7%) chemical and mineral fertilizers (+ 14.1%) chemicals and soda (+ 8.4%).

The growing popularity of container shipping is primarily due to the convenience of their logistics. Upon arrival at the desired railway station, the container can be quickly rearranged to a special vehicle platform and delivered to the customer. This eliminates the need for labor-intensive transshipment, especially of bulk and small cargoes, and significantly increases the safety of goods during transportation. The containers are also very convenient for export deliveries of products to countries with a different railway gauge than the Russian one. When using conventional cars at the borders, containers can just be relocated to another platform.
