Bashkiria State Assembly proposed to introduce animal identification throughout our country
UFA, 22 November 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
The Bashkiria State Assembly came up with a proposal to spread the positive experience of the region in identifying farm animals all over the country. Recall that at a meeting of the relevant parliamentary committee on agricultural issues, ecology and nature management, the head of the veterinary department of Bashkortostan, Azat Ziganshin, said that as of early November, more than 95% of farm animals of all forms of ownership were identified in the republic. However, according to him, this process should not stop, since young animals and cattle imported into the republic are subject to labeling and registration. This system allows controlling the quality of livestock products, tracking it at all stages.
“The outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease in certain regions in 2017 became an impetus for the total identification of farm animals in the republic”, commented on Konstantin Tolkachev, the Chairman of the State Assembly. “Bashkortostan began this work as a pilot region. It involves marking and registering all animals in a single electronic database with assigning each a unique 11-character number. Work with the electronic database can be carried out anywhere using the special application on the smartphone. The procedure for marking an animal takes no more than one minute. ”
According to Konstantin Tolkachev, it is necessary to study the possible ways of spreading the positive experience of the republic in the designated area to all regions of the country.
“We will hold consultations with executive authorities, with colleagues from the State Duma. It may be necessary to prepare an appropriate federal bill. The parliament of the republic is ready to participate in this work. In the future, the issue of mandatory identification of pets should be raised. This will increase the responsibility of citizens for the fate of their pets, significantly reduce the number of cats and dogs that turn out on the streets, and minimize the spread of rabies and other diseases among stray animals”, the Chairman of the State Assembly of Bashkiria believes.
