Air passengers number is growing 40 times faster than on railway in Bashkiria

Passenger traffic in air transport in Bashkiria is growing 40 times faster than in long-distance railway transport in 2019.

The Ufa International Airport served 2.34 million people for eight months of 2019. Compared to the same period last year, passenger traffic grew by 8%. The increase in domestic airlines was 10%, international - 1.6%. In January-August, 707 thousand people departed from the railway stations of Bashkiria by long-distance trains, which is 0.2% more than last year.

According to experts at a transport forum held in Ufa, the use of the Russian Railways dynamic pricing system, when the cost of a ticket varies depending on current demand, makes trains even more expensive.

The development of flights from Ufa to neighboring regions also plays an important role. If in 2017 104 thousand people took advantage of such flights, then in 2018 - 157 thousand people (an increase of + 57%). This year, the projected volume of interregional air transportation will be 260 thousand people (+ 65%), in 2020 - 295 thousand, and 330 thousand passengers in 2021.

As international and Russian experience shows, only high-speed passenger trains can compete with aviation. There are currently no plans to develop such transportation in Bashkiria.
