6 out of 21 cities were named favorable for living in Bashkortostan

UFA, 7 November 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
Only 6 out of 21 cities received favorable living environment status in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The Urban Environment Quality Index was presented by the Ministry of Construction of Russia, together with the state company Dom.RF and the Strelka consulting bureau based on the study of 1,114 Russian cities.
Dyurtyuli and Agidel were named favorable for living in the category of “small cities,” Sibay, Tuymazy, and Belebey in the group of “medium cities” and Sterlitamak in the category of “large cities.” Ufa lacked only one point to reach a "green" zone. The average score in the republic was 173, the minimum number of points was scored by the town of Davlekanovo, the maximum - Dyurtyuli.
The study showed that only 24% of Russian cities are favorable for living.
Of all the analyzed settlements, 262 are characterized by a favorable urban environment, and the environment in the remaining 852 cities in the index is indicated as unfavorable.
By 2024, it is planned to increase the average value of the urban environment index by 30% and halve the number of cities with an unfavorable urban environment. Such goals are indicated in the decree signed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2018. It is planned to spend more than 300 billion rubles to create a comfortable urban environment.
The study evaluated housing, landscaping, public and business infrastructure, a road network, and citywide spaces. The evaluation criteria were safety, comfort; environmental friendliness and health; identity and diversity; modern environment, management efficiency. The 36 index criteria included the variety of residential development, the number of fatalities in road accidents, pedestrian accessibility, the number of urban attraction centers, etc.
The maximum possible number of points that the city could receive in the index was 360, but this result was unattainable. Moscow had the greatest number of points - 276. If the city got more than 180 points, then the environment in it was considered favorable. The national average was 163 points.
