New type of tourism is gaining popularity in Russia

A new type of tourism — bleisure-travel, which means combining business travel and leisure, is gaining popularity in Russia. «Rossiyskaya Gazeta» reports it with reference to the study by the "Aeroclub" business tourism agency.

The term is derived from the English words business and leisure. An employee goes on a business trip and then extends his stay on his initiative to have a rest.

Experts link the popularity of this format with the concentration of the generation of millennials, people born after 1981, in the modern labor market. They prefer to combine personal life and work, and also try to explore new places.

The study shows that representatives of the extractive, manufacturing, and energy industries most often extend their business trips across Russia. Besides them, employees of pharmaceutical and FMCG companies combine work and leisure. And the number of similar business trips among employees of the automotive industry, compared with last year, has more than doubled.

Moscow is among the most popular Russian cities where business travelers love to stay on weekends. Demand increased by 17 percent for the year.

St. Petersburg is in second place. Often business travelers stay in such cities as Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod. The last enjoyed the growth of demand by 160 percent.

Among foreign cities are Almaty, Madrid, Paris, Shanghai, and Vienna.
