Analysts of the Expert agency published a poverty map of the Russian regions. Bashkortostan was included in the ranks of “mediocre” with 38 Russian regions more. According to researchers, the proportion of poor people in the republic varies from 10.5% to 17.5%.
“To give a picture of poverty across regions, we used the ratio of modal (that is, the most frequent) income in each region and the regional subsistence minimum. Also, Rosstat used data on the share of the population with cash incomes below the subsistence minimum in each region, ”the map compilers explained.
The modal income (that is, the most common) in Bashkortostan is 1.25 and 1.5 of the subsistence minimum in the region.
Among the "richest" regions analysts identified Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow region, Tula, Lipetsk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk, Sakhalin regions, Yamal-Nenets and Chukotka Autonomous Districts.
“The group of the poorest regions (there are 31, and this is more than a third of the country's regions), where the modal income is equal to or slightly higher (up to 1.25) of the subsistence minimum and the proportion of poor people sometimes exceeds 40%. This is almost the whole of the Caucasus, a significant part of Siberia, the Volga region, ” the Expert Agency clarified.
In the Republic of Tyva and Ingushetia, the modal income of the population is below the subsistence minimum, and the proportion of the poor is from 32 to 41.5%.
