This year on May holidays Russians will have ten days off. Most of our compatriots prefer budget travel over Russia.
Thus, as in 2018, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod are included in the rating of the most popular cities for railway trips, and for air travel - Sochi and Ufa, it follows from the analysis of the online travel service UFS.Travel.
Of those who decided to go to another country for a few days, Turkey and Israel are popular, especially among Muscovites. Residents of St. Petersburg and Kazan prefer to travel to Georgia (the average sum is 13,250 rubles). Among the leaders of last year for foreign rail journeys, except Finland, which has always been in demand, there were France and Latvia, and for air travel - Italy.
Compared to 2018, the average ticket has increased slightly for both air tickets and travel by train. In 2019, it was 14,656 and 5,865 rubles, whereas last year it was 12,096 and 4,569 rubles, respectively.
Most Russians are planning to travel immediately after the end of the working week and buy tickets for April 30 and May 1. At the same time, those who prefer air travel will return on the 8th or 12th, while rail travelers extend their rest until May 11 and 12.
UFS.Travel experts also analyzed separately where retirees, couples and young people will have a rest during the May holidays. Travelers aged 55 and over are planning budget trips to St. Petersburg, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, as well as to Simferopol. Of the foreign destinations for travel by train, they prefer Helsinki and Prague, for flights - Tel Aviv. At the same time, compared to last year, the share of pensioners among those traveling on the May holidays increased and amounted to 12 percent of all bookings.
For family holidays, Russians choose Sochi to spend a few days at sea, as well as to fly to Tbilisi and Istanbul. Young people prefer several destinations to travel at once - Sochi is in demand among air travel, and those who prefer trains will go for a walk around St. Petersburg, as well as go to Nizhny Novgorod and Saratov to spend time with their families. Interestingly, young people from Kazan, Voronezh, and Kaliningrad, as well as from Belarus and Ukraine are planning to visit Moscow.
