Ford will close passenger car factories in Russia

Ford will no longer develop an independent business in Russia, the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said in an interview with Kommersant.

Ford will focus on the light commercial vehicle segment, such as the Ford Transit.

According to Dmitry Kozak, the Russian partner of the company, the Sollers Group, which will receive a controlling stake in the Ford Sollers joint venture, will manage this business.

Now the government is discussing with Sollers a possibility of concluding a special investment contract involving the localization of the Ford Transit production in Elabuga in Tatarstan. Kozak expects the contract to be signed within two months.

The Ford Sollers Company confirmed to the publication that by the end of June 2019 they would complete the production of passenger cars in Russia and subsequently close two automobile plants in Naberezhnye Chelny and Vsevolozhsk, as well as an engine factory in Elabuga.
