USATU and Indian scientists joint project won international grant

UFA, 15 March 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
The Russian Science Foundation (RNF) summed up the results of a competition to support international research teams, held jointly with the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of India (DST). Of the 180 applications, 20 projects won, including a joint project "Nanostructured Titanium Implants Development with Bioactive and Antibacterial Composite Coatings for Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery"of the scientists from Ufa State Aviation Technical University (scientific supervisor - Professor Ruslan Valiev) and the research group of the Tiruchirappalli National Institute of Technology (scientific supervisor - Professor N. Ramesh Babu).
The discovery has already become an international breakthrough, and scientists hope in the near future to create an engineering center, where new materials will be tested. It will solve the actual problem of import substitution as today up to 90 percent of implants are purchased abroad.
The essence of the development: the original porous oxide coating, on the one hand, will improve the corrosion properties of the material, and, on the other hand, will simulate the bone surface for better cell placement. The coating composition includes silver nanoparticles to reduce inflammatory processes and special organic compounds to improve cell survival.
According to the Russian Science Foundation, the size of one grant from the Russian side will be from 4 to 6 million rubles annually, and the projects themselves are planned for implementation in 2019-2021.
