Ufa airport infrastructure does not keep up with passenger traffic growth

UFA, 13 March 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
By 2020, the capacity of the airfield infrastructure of Ufa Airport will no longer correspond to the capacity of the terminals.
Over the past five years, passenger traffic grew by eight percent per year, in 2018 it reached a level of 3.2 million passengers. The growth became particularly intense after the reconstruction of passenger terminals by the SCO and BRICS Summits in 2015.
The reconstruction of the airfield complex at Ufa International Airport was discussed at an extended meeting of the Federation Council’s Economic Policy Committee with a delegation from Bashkortostan.
The republic plans to complete the reconstruction of the domestic airways terminal by the end of 2019, increasing its capacity to 5.2 million passengers a year.
“Considering the need to ensure the growing intensity of take-off and landing operations at peak hours — it is at the limit, six planes per hour with 12 planes requested by airlines, we consider it necessary to include this object in the federal program and reconstruct the airfield part of the Ufa airport,” said Timur Mukhametianov, the head of the Bashkir State Committee for Transport at the meeting of the Federation Council’s Economic Policy Committee.
The total investment in the project is 4 billion rubles. Its implementation will increase the capacity of the airfield to 12 sorties per hour, and increase the apron for aircraft parking from 15 to 24 lots.
