Radiy Khabirov: We are planning to complete Sibay mine flooding by March 26

The situation in Sibay is calm; the flooding of the quarry will end as scheduled. It was reported to journalists by the Acting Head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov in Izhevsk, after the end of the meeting of the VFD Council.

“All works are being carried out as part of the project approved by Rostechnadzor. The company keeps up with all the dates we have talked about. Moreover, now as you see, there is an ongoing melting of snow, which helps the active flow of water into the quarry. Therefore we proceed according to the schedule. I believe that we will make it by March 26, ”said the head of the region, answering a TASS correspondent’s question.

On Monday, the head of the Sibay administration, Rustem Afzalov, said that works on flooding the Sibay quarry had been completed by 82%.

“The flooding started from 549 meters - this is considered to be a zero point here. Today 483 meters have been reached, that is 64 meters are flooded. It is 82% of our reference point, which is - horizon 469, ”the head of Sibay noted.

Since December 2018, a high alert mode has been operating in Sibay due to smog and smell of sulfur emitted by smoldering ore in the closed quarry. The Sibay branch of Uchalinsky Mining Plant carries out the flooding of the mine. The process is scheduled to be completed by March 26.
