Bashkiria residents began to spend more with cards and less to withdraw money from ATMs

UFA, 26 December 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galina Bakhshieva/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
Residents of Bashkiria are increasingly using bank cards to pay for purchases, the National Bank of the republic stated.
According to the latest data, 26 rubles out of 100 are spent in the region in a cashless way. In January-October of this year, 293 million transactions worth 211 billion rubles were made using cards in Bashkortostan.
The average check for card transactions fell to 722 rubles, which is associated with the growing popularity of this means of payment. The number of active bank cards increased by 14% - to 4.2 million.
If non-cash transactions in Bashkiria increased by 24%, cash withdrawal operations, on the contrary, are declining. In the nine months of 2018, their number was by 4% less than a year ago.
“The growth of the payment services market is promoted by the active development of the payment infrastructure and Internet payments. Thus, the number of terminals for cashless payment has increased by 21%. As a result, we see that the average resident of Bashkiria is five times more likely to use cards for purchases than for withdrawing cash. Moreover, every fifth transaction was carried out via the Internet. Overall, the volume of Internet payments grew by 46% to 65.2 billion rubles”, said Marat Kashapov, the chief executive of the National Bank branch for the Bashkortostan Republic of the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia.
