Soybean, lentils, chickpeas and flax were first grown in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, this year, for the first time, not traditional for the region but high-marginal crops such as soybeans, lentils, chickpeas, flax, rapeseed, fodder beans, colewort were sown for testing in the region. The varieties were obtained from other regions and were tested in the conditions of the Trans-Ural and Pre-Ural steppe zones.

The weather conditions of 2018 were not very favorable for plant growth and development: at the beginning of summer - cold weather and lack of moisture, then heat with a lack of precipitation. Despite this, good yields, even in Trans-Ural conditions, were shown in varieties of lentils, oil flax and rapeseed.

White lupine and narrow-leaved lupine were most adapted to the conditions of the republic of the varieties of lupine. The highest yields of chickpea formed varieties bred at the Krasnokutskaya breeding station (Kharkiv region) and selected under conditions of annual drought. Soybean varieties of the Belarusian selection were distinguished by late ripeness - they ripened only in the second decade of September. Soybean varieties of Siberian selection showed themselves a little better in the conditions of the Pre-Ural steppe zone of the republic.

“These data are annual and preliminary, so they cannot be considered as conclusions. Testing of varieties of protein crops and oilseeds will be continued”, the Bashkir Research Institute of Agriculture informs.

Since last year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Bashkortostan focused on working with high-marginal crops - protein and oilseeds. This year, farms planted about 11 thousand hectares of rapeseed, and the Chishminsky Oil-Mill delivered the first lots of oil for export to Europe as raw material for biofuels.

According to Bashkir Research Institute of Agriculture, about three thousand hybrids and varieties of 11 crops are tested annually in the experimental fields of the institute – of their own selection and new ones for the region.
