Bashkiria eco-products can enter world market if quality standards become stricter

Oleg Mironenko, the executive director of the National Union of Producers and Consumers of Organic Products, is confident that natural food is the thing of the future. In the meantime, Russia produces organic products for only 160 million euros, while the entire world market is estimated at 125 billion euros. In this segment Switzerland, Finland, and Ireland are trendsetters. For example, in Switzerland, organic products are produced annually for 2.2 billion francs. The well-known Finnish manufacturer of dairy products under the “Valio” brand has an annual income of 2 billion euros. Thanks to state support and the cooperative system, the organic products of the Finnish company are by only 15% more expensive than usual.

The federal law “On organic farming”, which will come into force on January 1, 2020, can rectify the situation with the production of organic food in Russia. However, according to Oleg Mironenko, there are already companies in our country that have captured the European market. Cosmetics from Siberia under the brand Natura Siberica today is among the best European natural and organic cosmetics.

Organic products are also a powerful factor in attracting tourists to a particular region. The share of agrarian or rural tourism has already reached 30%. After comfort, tourists are now interested in the food they eat.

“People would like to taste the national food, join the natural rural way of life, live among domestic animals. World tourism is turning green and three S (sun, sea, sand) are replaced by three L (landscape, lore, leisure)”, noted Oleg Mironenko.

The expert believes that Bashkortostan has good chances for the development of rural tourism and the promotion of high-quality, organic food.

“I believe that your republic may even toughen the standards that are applied to the quality of agricultural products. And then not only Russian consumers but also foreigners will know that the foodstuff produced in Bashkortostan has the highest mark of quality and natural and geographical origin”, said the executive director of the National Union of Producers and Consumers of Organic Products.
