Non-refundable air tickets can be refunded due to illness of relatives

A draft law, which presupposes the return of non-refundable plane tickets in the event of illness of the passenger’s relatives, was adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the first reading. This was reported in his blog by the deputy from Bashkiria Zarif Baiguskarov.

“It is proposed to provide that the plane fare is refundable to a passenger in case of his forced failure to fly due to an illness of his family members or close relatives, regardless of whether they follow with him or not. Currently, a refund is envisaged only in the case of family members’ illness flying together with the passenger. It relates to non-refundable tickets, which constitute 70% of all 105 million tickets sold for 2017”, the parliamentarian says.

Thus, after the adoption of the law, a passenger who bought a non-refundable ticket, in case of returning such ticket due to an illness of family members or close relatives, will receive a refund.
