Wheat and rye hybrid from Bashkortostan received silver medal of “Golden Autumn” exhibition

The winter triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye) "Bashkirskaya 3" received a silver medal of the "Golden Autumn" exhibition, which was held in Moscow on October 10-13. According to the Bashkir Research Institute of Agriculture, the average yield of the crop was about 48 centners per hectare. In 2016, the yield of Bashkirskaya-3 was almost 60 centners per hectare. The variety is suitable not only for fodder purposes but also for baking, Anvar Shakirzyanov, the head of Chishminsky breeding center explained.

“This is a crop that could feed the globe. Unfortunately, we cannot promote the idea of the triticale benefits, which contains everything from wheat and rye. The potential of triticale is almost unlimited: exposing the grain to colchicine and increasing the number of chromosomes, which is not genetic modification, you can achieve an incredible yield of 150-200 centners per hectare. A potential yield of triticale on our fields is 90 centners per hectare”, the scientist commented on. According to him, in Poland triticale is sown on an area of 2 million hectares, in Belarus - 1 million hectares, in Bashkiria, the cultivated area of crop today is 25 thousand hectares (of 2 million hectares).
