"Green" energy onset will continue - Rustem Khamitov

UFA, 18 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. The Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov talked about prospects for the alternative types of energy development in the republic at the Russian Energy Forum in Ufa.

According to him, currently the traditional types of electricity are "in their prime of life", so the "green" energy sector cannot yet compete with them. But projects in the field of renewable energy sources are successfully developing in the republic.

"Our republic is called "sunny Bashkortostan". 300 days a year the sun shines with all its might in the Bashkir Trans-Ural. This energy should be used, and currently still small, but significant objects of solar energy are being built there", underlined Rustem Khamitov. "In 2020, we will have about 100 MW of installed capacity of solar energy. This is only two percent of the total installed capacity of the republican energy system, but it is already a good step forward. So we will continue our work in this part. "

According to the head of the republic, projects in the field of wind energy can also become promising for the Trans-Urals. The region has a great potential for the construction of biogas power plants.

At the same time, Rustem Khamitov noted that "green" energy sector would be able to develop only with the government support.

"The cost of such electricity is very high, sometimes two to five times higher than of traditional energy. Therefore, the state is the main buyer and sponsor of the "green" energy sector", the Head of Bashkortostan emphasized. "But as the technology develops, the cost will decrease. I hope that in the next five to ten years the "green" energy will be equal to the traditional one at its cost, and there will be no difference in this part. "
