Cargo transportation will be restored on Belaya River in Bashkiria - Rustem Khamitov

UFA, 27 September 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. Dredging operations are carried out on the Belaya River - the waterway should provide navigation and freight traffic. This was reported by the head of Bashkiria Rustem Khamitov in an interview with the newspaper "Transport Rossii". "Low-head water power development on the Volga and the Don Rivers is conducted, which will raise the level of rivers in problem areas and increase the volume of river traffic. We need to build a port at the mouth of the Belaya River, where it flows into the Kama. It is a convenient place, which will give us an opportunity to attract large volumes of various cargoes to the river. I am sure that the river transport of Russia will be revived. It's unavoidable. We should take advantage of the natural resources that we have", said the head of the region.

Rustem Khamitov noted that, unfortunately, the development of water transport was not going so fast: restoring waterways and a fleet construction required significant investments, and in the current situation, preference was given to road and rail transport.

Earlier, the agency reported on plans to restore the waterway on the Ufa River.
