Imports share fell to record levels in Russia

UFA, 20 September 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The share of imported consumer goods in Russian stores in the second quarter of 2017 was 33%, food products of foreign production - 21%. According to Rosstat, this is a record low share of imports since 2005, Izvestia reports.
Last time, Rosstat recorded a record low share of imported goods in the first quarter of 2017 - then it was 36%. The Ministry for Industry and Trade representatives explain this trend by several reasons.
"An important factor is that international corporations invest in production in Russia. Thus, the goods of the concerns are transferred from the category of imports into the category locally produced. This is beneficial both for the economy of the country and for producers", the ministry informs.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced the successful replacement of imported vegetables. According to the department, in 2015-2016, 326 hectares of new greenhouses were built and more than 40 hectares were modernized. The harvest of greenhouse vegetables in 2016 was 814 thousand tons, which is 18% more than in 2014.
According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the import of vegetables in Russia has declined more than two-fold. The decrease in the share of foreign goods on domestic shelves is also confirmed by retailers.
