Food basket cost has decreased in Russia

UFA, 13 September 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. In August, prices for a set of important food products were recorded. The minimum set of food products includes meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, bread, vegetables, apples, cereals, tea, sweets, sugar and salt - total 33 items. This is reported by Izvestia referring to Rosstat (the Federal Service of State Statistics).

According to Rosstat, the cost of a minimum set of food products in Russia averaged 3839.9 rubles in August and, compared with the previous month, decreased by 5.6%. The set is becoming cheaper the second month in a row. As a result of July, it cost 4066.8 rubles - 3.9% less than in June. At the same time, since the beginning of the year, the set has risen in price by 4.1%.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained the reasons of the consumer basket cost decrease.

"The main contribution to reducing the cost of the conditional food package in recent months is the fall in prices for certain types of fruit and vegetable products, due to the introduction of new harvest produce to the market," it was reported by the ministry, adding that the high saturation of the markets also contributed to decrease in the prices for meat, cereals, sugar, dairy products.
