African swine fever can reach Bashkortostan - Rosselkhoznadzor

UFA, 16 June 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. The African swine fever (ASF), which was registered this year in 10 regions of Russia, could spread to four more regions, including Bashkortostan. This is reported by RBC-Ufa with reference to the statement of the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert.
The ten regions where the African swine fever was recorded this year include Crimea, Rostov, Irkutsk, Volgograd Regions, four regions of the Central Federal District (including the Moscow region) and two subjects of the Volga Federal District - Samara and Saratov regions.
"The ASF can spread to neighbouring regions until the end of the year - the republics of Mordovia, Udmurtia, Mari El and Bashkortostan, and also affect the Ulyanovsk, Kostroma and Kirov Regions," said Sergey Dankvert. He noted that "not a single territory of the Russian Federation is protected from the disease," as the movement of pork is difficult to control.
Previously, RBC-Ufa reported that last year the Bashkortostan Government banned importation of pigs from regions where outbreaks were recorded. Then cases of African swine fever were registered in 40 regions of Russia, quarantine was declared in eight.
