Russians do not support measures to limit cash payments - VCIOM

UFA, 22 March 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. Measures to minimize cash flows to withdraw the economy from shadow are being discussed again by the authorities. However, in general, Russians do not support a proposal to limit cash payments, VCIOM experts established. 80 percent of citizens considered it as violation of their rights, rather than an effective tool to combat crime, bribes, tax evasion.
Only one percent of respondents said that they made purchases and payments only in a non-cash way. 14 percent of the population (in both capitals – 23 percent, in million cities - 20, in villages - six percent) mostly use bank cards, sometimes paying cash. 32 percent of Russians use only cash, 27 percent mostly cash.
Experts marked the differences within the socio-demographic groups: 53 percent of people over 60 prefer to pay with hard cash, 17 percent of 18-24-year-olds do the same. 43% of rural residents use cash. When answering the question about to what sum cash balances should be limited to, 59 percent of the respondents named this or that figure, which averaged 100,000 rubles.
