Every third adult Russian took loan in banks - study

UFA, 10 November 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Galina Bakhshieva/. Nearly one in three adults Russians used a bank loan. These are the data of the first study of financial services accessibility in the country prepared by the Bank of Russia.
The most active users of bank loans are people of middle age - from 25 to 55 years, entrepreneurs and self-employed. Only 2.8 percent of the adult population took loans in micro-finance institutions and 3.4 percent in pawnshops.
The largest share of the population allocating funds on deposits in credit institutions falls on the age group of 71 and older (44.9 percent).
Thus people of middle age - 46 to 50 years old and over the age of 66 years more actively allocated funds in microfinance organizations. Most likely, they were attracted by an opportunity to receive higher interest income, which, in turn, indicates their inability to compare the risks and possible benefits, the study’s authors comment on the issue.
According to the study data, remote access to bank accounts was more often used by young people in the age groups from 21 years to 35 years.
