Ufa oldest temple restoration will cost 8.6 million rubles

UFA, 1 November 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Arina Rakhimkulova/. 8.6 million rubles are needed for restoration of the oldest in Ufa Pokrovsky Cathedral. It is not possible to collect the funds by donations of parishioners, so participation of patrons is required, the RBC-Ufa informs.

The Cathedral should be included in the interfaith complex being constructed in Salavat Yulaev Avenue. Today, the church building is in dire need of restoration.

"The repair of the facade will cost 4.07 million rubles, roofing - 2.8 million, landscaping - 1.76 million. We cannot collect such money at the expense of the parishioners’ donations, and we can only hope for patrons who are ready to sponsor", said the beneficiary, Father Alexander.

The Pokrovsky Cathedral was built and consecrated in 1817. Unlike other churches in Ufa it was never rebuilt and remained almost intact. Having served for more than a century, the temple was officially closed in May 1941. In 1940-50-s it housed military and pharmaceutical stocks, which helped to preserve the iconostasis and unique wall paintings made in the second half of the 19th century. In March 1957 the Soviet government returned the Pokrovsky Cathedral to believers as "compensation" for the blown Trinity-Smolensky Cathedral, on the site of which the Friendship Monument was built.
