Road tunnel in Ufa will be ready by 2020

UFA, 25 June 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Rozaliya Valeeva/. Road tunnel in Ufa, which will allow exiting the M5 and M7 highway, will be commissioned by 2020. The Chairman of the State Committee for Transport and Roads of Bashkortostan Ilyas Munirov announced this in an interview with TV channel "Russia-24 - Bashkortostan".(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUG7cVt7xB8)

Construction of the tunnel began in 1992. According to Ilyas Munirov, it is quite a big problem for the city and the republic.

“Currently options of the public-private partnership are being considered. The tunnel will operate on a toll basis as this is the only way to finish and implement the project without negative impact to the republic.”

As Ilyas Munir noted transport streams had been already calculated, the toll rates had been also determined. The project implementation will take four years.

The tunnel length will be 1,249 m, height - 5 m, width of the traffic way in each direction - 8.5 m. It will have two-lane traffic in each direction.

Every year 200 million rubles for maintenance and emergency works to maintain the property in proper condition are allocated from the Bashkortostan budget. Total for the completion of the tunnel about 9 billion rubles are required. Due to the large estimated cost and the lack of funding the construction of the tunnel has been going on for already 23 years (most of the time the facility was preserved). To launch the entire transport route from the M5 to M7 it will be also necessary to build two bridge crossings and nine kilometres of road. The total cost of the entire site along with the tunnel is 21 billion rubles. The expected traffic by 2020 is more than nine thousand cars per day.
