Ivan Nikitchuk: "Russia has accumulated more than 90 billion tons of waste"

UFA, 22 May 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Sergey Zakharov/. Adopted last year by the State Duma two fundamental laws "On Technical Regulation in the Field of Environmental Protection", as well as amendments to the Federal Law "On Production and Consumption Waste" are a strong step forward in the conservation of the environment, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for Natural Resources, Environment and Ecology Ivan Nikitchuk said within his working visit to Ufa. MP participated in the round table in the Ministry of Nature Management and Ecology of Bashkortostan.
"In fact, we are moving on the way similar to the whole civilized world. It has long been used in the West and there are pretty good results achieved in terms of environmental conservation there", Nikitchuk said. According to him, "the problem of waste disposal is very difficult for the country as a whole, as more than 90 billion tons are already accumulated; a huge area is occupied by landfills. Nowhere in the world there is such situation when 90-95 percent of waste is landfilled".
"Since 2016 regional operators of waste management facilities must be established. And consequently the problem of financing will be raised, as well as human resources which can be engaged in this area. Therefore, regional authorities will face very serious work", the deputy said.
