Central Bank warns of financial pyramids stepping up in Russia

UFA, 12 February 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elvira Latypova/. Aggressive advertising of websites offering to invest in "financial projects" based on principles of network marketing or pyramid schemes is stepping up in Russia. The warning is posted on the website of the Bank of Russia.

Income of those who invest in such projects is formed at the expense of newly attracted members.

The Central Bank continues to receive reports on the activities of companies promising citizens for a fee to pay off their debts to banks and microfinance institutions. Recall that the largest pyramid of its kind in Bashkortostan - "Drevprom" collapsed in early 2014.

"The Bank of Russia calls attention to the fact that organizations offering similar services, and companies raising funds in the" financial projects "on principles of network marketing, including their successors, may mislead consumers of financial services. The Bank encourages citizens to exercise caution and refrain from entering into contracts with them", it is said in the statement of the regulator.
