Minimum wage will be raised to subsistence level in Russia in 2017

Members of the Public Council of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation supported the bill by the Ministry of Labour providing for raising the minimum wage to the subsistence level.
Under the bill, from January 1 next year the minimum wage should be established in the country in the amount of 5865 rubles.
Since October 1, 2015 the minimum wage will be established in the ratio to the subsistence level of working age population in the corresponding subject of the Russian Federation for the third quarter of the previous year, equal to: since 1 October 2015 - 89 percent; since 1 October 2016 - 94 percent; since October 1, 2017 - 100 percent.
In the third quarter of 2013 in 56 regions of the country the regional subsistence level was lower than the average subsistence level across Russia - 8014 rubles per month.
According to the director of the Department of wages, labour relations and social partnership of the Ministry of Labour RF Marina Maslova, this problem is solved in the bill by establishing a uniform value of minimum wage for the entire territory of the Russian Federation, expressed as a percentage of the regional subsistence level. While in absolute values the minimum wage will take into account regional characteristics, according to the website of Ministry of Labour of Bashkortostan.
