The victory of Russia at Borodino is immortalised in five-kilogram silver coins

Two kinds of memorable coins fr om silver were released by the Bank of Russia. One of them has face value of 25 roubles and is devoted to the 250th anniversary of the Winter Palace in St.-Petersburg. The second coin of 500 roubles denomination was issued in the historical series «the 200th anniversary of Russia’s victory in the Patriotic War - 1812», the external and public relations department of the Central Bank RF informs.
The 25-rouble coin is made from sterling silver, weight of the precious metal — 155,5 gram, diameter — 60 mm. The facade of the Winter Palace and a fragment of patten lattice are depicted on its back. The number of coins issued is 1500 pieces.
The coin of the higher advantage is issued even with more lim ited circulation – only 50 pieces, and weighs much more – weight of sterling silver is five kg. Diameter of the 500-rouble coin is 150 mm. In the centre of its reverso there are soldiers of the Russian and French armies in one of episodes of the Borodino battle, on the top there is a wonder-working icon of Ever-Virgin Mary Smolensk "Hodegetria", at the bottom — crossed armour, standarts, military ammunition and the inscription «Patriotic War - 1812» are represented.
