Students don’t want to study on credit

Credits for education can’t be called popular, the bankers say at the beginning of a new school year, talking about the state program for students “Educational Credit”, which started in Russia in 2010. Such credits are given just under 5% of interest per annum for the term up to 15 years with the debtor’s delay for the whole period of study at an institute and for three months after graduation.

In spite of very attractive terms, which become softer every year – for instance, initially the maximal term of crediting was equal to 10 years – just slightly more than one thousand of such credits have been given out in Russia, though originally this figure expected to be equal to at least ten thousand credits annually.

Three Russian banks give credits according to this program for today:”SBERBANK”, “SOUZ” and “Industrial-Transport Bank” (PROMTRANSBANK). Two these banks are present in Bashkortostan – “SBERBANK” and “PROMTRANSBANK”.

“Russia faces extremely high demand in higher education but at that the popularity of educational credits is far from ideal. Having no means for studying at high level education institutions the school-leavers consider quite acceptable for themselves to enter lower institutes but on “budget” vacancies. Only popularization of this service among population can improve the situation, otherwise it is too difficult to predict further development of this educational service” – press service of “SBERBANK” reported.

“Educational credits aren’t as popular as they could be “– specialists of “PROMTRANSBANK” tell – “Since the requirements of the law are too rigid, educational credits remain unpopular. In order to get such credits student has to provide the information from his institute that he (she) studies only with distinction but such students usually already study on “budget” vacancies. Therefore “PROMTRANSBANK” hasn’t yet issued even a single educational credit”.
