Today is the World Day of Water Resources

The World Day of Water Resources is marked today, March 22, in many countries, including Russia, and its main goal is to turn attention of the mankind to the state of water objects, the problems of shortage of drinkable water and rational water supply.
This day is held on the territory of Russia since 1995 under the slogan “Water Means Life”. Though Russia is considered one of the most well provided with water resources countries in the world, numbering 2,5 million rivers and about three million lakes, the problem of ecological protection of water objects remains very urgent.
“In a whole Bashkortostan is less provided with water resources than Russian Federation. 8750 cubic meters of water per year fall on one citizen of our Republic and, for instance, in Perm region this index is two times higher. In this connection Ministry for nature management and ecology RB holds wide-scaled actions, aimed at protection and restoration of water objects, rational use of water resources and preservation of ecological systems of water basins, located on the territory of the region, every year” – the Ministry’s press-secretary Nina Nikandrova says.
There are about 13 thousand rivers in Bashkortostan and their total length exceeds 57 thousand kilometers.
Belaya-river is the main water artery of the Republic. Its drainage area amounts to 72,2% of the territory RB and 82% of annual republican river runoff is formed in its basin.
The shortage of water is recently observed here, resulted in lowering of water level and draining of water objects, so this valuable natural resource demands rational use and economy, since life of all of us depends on water.
