The whole passenger transportation in Russia has to be equipped with GLONASS (global navigation satellite system).
“Since July 1, 2012, the use of the transport vehicles, not equipped with GLONASS units or GLONASS/GPS units, will be considered as the gross violation of license requirements by licensee” – the state committee RB for transport and road economy reported to “Bashinform”.
The committee also reports that the goal-oriented program “Implementation of GLONASS technologies in the interests of social-economic development RB in 2012-2015”, worked up within the frames of the cooperation agreement, signed between the Bashkir Government and the federal GLONASS provider in 2011, is already approved.
“First of all this program provides for the use of modern satellite navigation systems for making the system of control over passenger transportations and with its help one can monitor the whereabouts of the vehicles, direction and speed of their movement and parking time. This system also allows calculating the transport schedule, the necessary number of the buses, depending on the passenger traffic, and many other things”.
In a whole this novelty is called to raise the quality of passenger transportation, lower the number of traffic incidents and increase the carrying capacity of the roads.
