Potato and buckwheat prices in Bashkortostan go down

Good harvest-2011 contributes to the drop of prices in the local food markets and first of all it concerns the cost of buckwheat and potato, which became several times more expensive in 2010, as the deputy Prime-Minister of the Government RB, the Minister of agriculture RB Ernst Isaev stated in the course of the last online conference, held on the site of “The Public Electronic Newspaper”.
The Vice-Premier called the situation with buckwheat a speculative explosion. Because of the last year poor buckwheat harvest the wholesalers started to boost up the prices and that immediately affected the retail sales. As a result, buckwheat has become the champion of the rise of food prices in the Republic.
“The volumes of buckwheat are quite enough in 2011. The gross harvest will amount to 67 thousand tons and production of buckwheat groats – 45 thousand tons. These figures exceed the needs of our population” – Ernst Isaev stated.
The potato harvest is also quite good – five times higher than in 2010.
“Potato prices varied from 8 to 12 rubles for one kilogram at the last fairs in the Republic” – the Vice-Premier reported.
It should be noted that the price for the “second bread” today is several times lower than in dry 2010 when one kilogram of potato was sold out at 30-40 rubles. Same is happening with buckwheat now: its price is gradually becoming quite acceptable.
