Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision lifted the ban over potato export from Egypt

Since September 14 the Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision lifted the ban over potato export from Egypt. The Agency put the temporary ban on potato export from this country on June 3, 2011, and this restriction was caused by the causative agent of brown rot, discovered in the Egyptian potato.

The Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision division in Bashkortostan reports the direct export of potato from Egypt to Bashkortostan is absent but this potato was delivered for the Republic by other Russian regions before the ban. Since the beginning of the year and till the introduction of the ban 520 tons of potato, cultivated in this country, has been delivered for Bashkortostan – a smaller part of the “second bread” exported. Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are the main purveyors of potato for the food market of our region. Potato was also delivered for Bashkortostan from Altai, Omsk, Kemerovo regions and from Khakassia.
