Bashkiria faces deep crisis in timber industry sphere

The timber industry of Bashkiria is found in a deep crisis and the problems the branch faces aren’t solved for many years, as it was stated at the meeting of the Government RB, devoted to development of the Republican timber industry and held by the President of Bashkiria Rustem Khamitov. The deputy Prime-Minister of the Government RB Uri Pustovgarov made the main report.
According to information of Russian Ministry of natural resources and ecology the wood-cutting area fund in the country is used just by 21% on average and in Bashkiria it is used only by 17%. In Karelia, as one of the most progressive forest regions this index is equal to 80%. The level of the use of the economic potential in the branch in the country is 7-10% on average and in Bashkiria - 2-3%.
More than ten timber industry projects are successfully developed in Russian regions and Bashkiria still has none.
Uri Pustovgarov offered the program for development of timber industry in the Republic.
“We intend to launch 12 big investment projects, establish three industrial parks, including the park for small business. We plan to open the woodworking zones and to increase the number of the business entities in this sphere almost two times”.
The program is meant for solution of three main aims: the increase of the timber industry’s share in the gross regional product five-six times by 2020; opening of more than six thousand workplaces in sphere of small business and the rise of the use of the timber potential RB from the present 17% up to 90%.
“Now the forest business in the region represents simple reselling of the timber and hitherto the Ministry of forestry RB was busy only with the timber distribution and sales. Now nearly a half of the Bashkir coniferous woods is already farmed out for the term of 49 years” – the Vice-Premier mentioned.
