Space satellite will help to solve ecological problems

The unique joint project is worked up by the Scientific-Research Institute of Safety of Living (SOL) and Ufa State Aviation Technical University. They are going to launch the space satellite, with the help of which one is able to solve many environmental problems, chairman of Russian Ecological Academy Bashkir division, Director of SOL Institute Valerie Maistrenko reported to participants of the meeting of the Public Ecological Council, held on Wednesday in Ministry of ecology RB.
The project was discussed for many years. Some proposals came from Russian Federal Space Agency but all efforts turned on the shortage of finances. Now the project is becoming a reality thanks to the fact that it is elaborated by Republican scientists without federal support.
“USATU possesses well-qualified personnel, experienced in design of such satellites” – Valerie Maistrenko said – “The University will be able to launch the satellite and to receive necessary information from it and on the base of this information our Institute will monitor the environment. We expect Ministry of nature management and ecology RB will become the final consumer of this information and it will use this data at its own discretion”.
The Institute possesses the largest bank of electronic maps in the Republic – there is the full map of Bashkortostan and the maps of all big towns and settlements (1:50000scale model) and correspondingly it designs the programs, able to model development of environmental situations, for example the situation in case of explosion on this or that object. Thanks to the satellite it will become possible to solve the questions, connected with prevention of emergency situations and liquidation of ecological after-effects.
