Ufa hit top 5 cities in bookstore availability

The number of bookstores in the capital of the republic is one facility per 31,079 people. This was reported by Svetlana Zorina, President of the Book Distributors Association, at a round table with book publishers. The event was held as part of the Kitap-Bayram international fair.

The first place on the list is occupied by Kazan, where there is one bookstore for every 24,800 residents. In second and third place are Samara and Rostov-on-Don - one store per 28.3 thousand and 28.5 thousand people, respectively. Fourth place goes to St. Petersburg (29.9 thousand).

Speaking about the problems faced by book publishers, the speaker proposed to limit price competition between online and offline sales channels at the legislative level, prohibit setting extremely low and extremely high prices for goods, and establish a ban on reducing the cost of goods unilaterally, except in cases where the owner himself makes such a decision.

Among other proposed measures to support the book industry, the speaker suggested introducing something like an analogue of the “Pushkin Card” for bookstores, as well as 0% VAT on books throughout the entire chain: from publishing houses to printing houses to distribution.
