Aigiz Baimukhametov, chairman of the Union of Writers of Bashkortostan, joined the Board of the Union of Writers of Russia. The board includes 50 members, including writers Igor Volgin, Sergey Lukyanenko, Sergey Minaev, Zakhar Prilepin, and Alexander Prokhanov, poet Evgeny Rein, directors Konstantin Bogomolov and Karen Shakhnazarov, and Dmitry Bak, director of the Literary Museum.
“During the XVII extraordinary congress of the Union of Writers of Russia, which was held in Moscow on February 27, words of gratitude were repeatedly heard from the stage to the Head of the Republic Radiy Khabirov for measures to support the writers' community. Bashkortostan was noted as a model region for supporting literature, awarded the status of "Literary Flagship of Russia" by the end of 2024,” said Aigiz Baimukhametov.
Vladimir Medinsky, assistant to the President of Russia, was elected Chairman and first Secretary of the Union of Writers of Russia. Delegates at the XVII extraordinary Union of Writers of Russia congress supported Medinsky's candidacy.
Writers from Bashkortostan participated in the congress: Aigiz Baimukhametov, chairman of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Bashkortostan; Kamil Ziganshin, laureate of the Russian President's Prize and People's Writer of the Republic of Bashkortostan; and Svetlana Churaeva, head of the association of Russian-speaking writers of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The III International Book Fair "Kitap-Bayram" will be held in Ufa from May 30 to June 1. It has already gained authority as the largest book fair in the country.
