Ufa to host Soyuzmultfilm studio and Russian animation history exhibition

Visitors will be able to see a unique exhibition of famous cartoons.

On August 27, the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan will open the "Magic World of Animation" exhibition, which is dedicated to Russian animation's history and the Soyuzmultfilm film studio. Organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the exhibition is dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the legendary cartoon factory.

The museum's press service reported that the exhibition includes three sections. The first is a historical timeline covering the formation of Soyuzmultfilm from 1936 to the present day. Here, you can learn more about the stages of development of domestic animation based on the studio, the names of legendary cartoon creators, and essential stylistic and genre periods.

The second section is multimedia, where visitors can watch fragments from their favorite cartoons and documentaries.

The third one is movie posters for the studio's most iconic films—"The Bremen Town Musicians," "The Golden Antelope," "The Kid and Carlson," "Mowgli," "The Mystery of the Third Planet," and many others. The images are collected from the collections of the Soyuzmultfilm film studio, the State Central Museum of Cinema, the Russian State Library, and the State Film Fund of the Russian Federation.

"The Soyuzmultfilm film studio and Russian animation are a unique national and world culture phenomenon. Winnie the Pooh and Cheburashka, the Bremen Town Musicians, the Little Humpbacked Horse, the Wolf and the Hare, and dozens of other heroes of Soviet animation became the personification of an entire era. The studio's cartoons have changed each of us, entered our everyday life through the images of our favorite characters, fictional artistic worlds, memorable quotes, and movie posters," said Boris Mashkovtsev, General Director of the Soyuzmultfilm film studio.

According to him, the movie poster, as the most operational and mass form of fine art, formed the basis of the exhibition concept in Ufa.

"Against the background of the visual diversity of the 20th century, the movie poster developed its stylistic form, which you can get acquainted with as part of the exhibition," explained Pavel Shvedov, an animation historian, and curator of the exhibition and cultural projects at the Soyuzmultfilm film studio.

The exhibition also includes a lecture meeting on Russian animation's history and current stage of development.
