Memorial concert "Holocaust Memorial Candle" to be held in Ufa

A memorial concert, "The Holocaust Memorial Candle", will be held in Ufa on January 29. The traditional concert at the State Concert Hall "Bashkortostan" will become the main event of the "Week of Remembrance" - the annual cycle of memorial and educational events dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust in Bashkortostan. The Holocaust Candle project will take place for the fifth time, starting in 2019.

As the press service of the Ministry of Culture told Bashinform News Agency, the exhibition "The Holocaust: Annihilation, Liberation, Salvation" will be open in the lobby of the concert hall, speaking about the feat of the soldiers of the Red Army - soldiers, doctors and reporters who liberated the Nazi death camp Auschwitz, where the victims of the Holocaust more than six million people. Viewers will be able to take part in the online campaign #WeRemember.

As part of the project, the Bashkortostan’s Jewish Community "Butterfly of Memory" will also be awarded to teachers who actively conduct seminars, class hours, and lectures on the Holocaust. The culmination of the memorial concert will be the lighting of six candles symbolizing the six million Jews who died in concentration camps.

The memorial concert "Holocaust Memory Candle" is dedicated not only to the memory of Jews but it is also to the memory of the people of our multinational country about what could have happened if the regime of mass extermination by the Nazis of representatives of various ethnic and social groups had remained. The project helps to preserve in the Republic of Bashkortostan the memory of the feat of the Soviet soldiers who liberated on January 27, 1945, the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camps who were in the small town of Auschwitz in Poland. The most terrible war of the 20th century should remain in the memory of today's generations and generations to come. Our sacred task is to preserve this memory and prevent such tragedies from happening again, - said the head of the national Jewish culture "Kokhav" of the Republic of Bashkortostan Alexei Laptev.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is celebrated on January 27th. It was established on November 1, 2005, by a resolution of the UN General Assembly. The main task of the annual cycle of educational, educational, and cultural events, "Week of Remembrance", is to educate and inform the widest possible audience about the history of the Holocaust to prevent a similar tragedy in the future.
