Turkmen melon festival was held in Ufa

Turkmen Melon Day Holiday was celebrated in Ufa as part of the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia 2022. The folk melon festival was organized for students of the Ufa sanatorium boarding school No. 2, the press service of the House of Friendship of Peoples reports.

The organizers of the holiday were the Assembly of Peoples of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the House of Friendship of Peoples of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Turkmen National Cultural Center "Edinstvo".  The celebration was also attended by students from Turkmenistan, who study in Bashkortostan.

For those present, a rich program was presented with the participation of cultural figures of Bashkortostan, guests of honor, singers from distant Turkmenistan Rakhat Gurbangilyzhev and Geldymurat Babaev. The participants of the event were told about Turkmenistan, acquainted with interesting historical facts, culture and cuisine of this ancient country. The lecture was accompanied by a demonstration of video materials on the screen.

An exhibition of Turkmen folk arts and crafts, gourds and national dishes was also presented. The main organizer of the holiday, President of the Turkmen National Cultural Center of the Republic of Bashkortostan "Unity" Saparmurat Shangliev said that since ancient times, Turkmenistan had been considered the birthplace of the best melons in the world and the culture of melon cultivation in this country goes back centuries. The national wealth of the Turkmen people is the melon even now. The Fund of Turkmen melon-growing science has taken into account over 1600 varieties available in the world.

The sweetest national holiday, Melon Day, is celebrated annually in Turkmenistan in accordance with a special decree adopted in July 1994 by the first president of the country, Saparmurat Niyazov.
