On March 17, the birthday of Rudolf Nureyev, the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater will host a unique retro premiere of the feature film "Venice. Carnival. Love" (Venezia, Carnevale, Un Amore) with Rudolf Nureyev in the lead role.
The film screening will take place on the opening day of the first regional stage of the Nureyev Seasons International Cultural Project and the traditional Nureyev Days, which are held annually by Bashkir Opera in honor of the great dancer's birthday.
The film "Venice. Carnival. Love", filmed in 1981-1982 by the Italian film director Mario Lanfranchi, occupies a special place among documentaries and feature films about Rudolf Nureyev and with his participation. The picture was lost in the film archives for almost 40 years and has never been shown in Russia. The film was found, restored, and translated into Russian by the organizers of the Nureyev Seasons and will be shown for the first time in Ufa on March 17.
Before the film screening, a performance will take place in the theater's lobby with the participation of ballet troupe artists and students of the Ufa Choreographic College. For a short time, the pictures of the Carnival of Venice will "come to life". The theater museum will host an exhibition of previously unknown photographs of Rudolf Nureyev, depicting him during filming in Venice. It is expected that the guests of honor at the opening ceremony of the Nureyev Seasons will be artists who personally knew Rudolf Nureyev.
The gathering of guests will begin at 17.30; the show starts at 19.00. Admission to the event is free; those wishing to become its participants must fill out the form before March 15. In response to the application, a ticket will be sent by e-mail indicating the reserved seats in the hall.
The project is implemented with the support of the Civil Society Assistance Foundation of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
The Nureyev Seasons project has existed since 2018, and this year for the first time, it will be held in three Russian cities at once - Moscow, Ufa, and Kazan. In Ufa, its events will take place from March 17 to 21, starting at the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre.
