Rock painting in the Shulgan-Tash Cave will henceforth be under the constant control of technology. Today, in the distant halls of the cave, automatic cameras, the so-called camera traps triggered by motion, are installed. As explained by the Shulgan-Tash Cave Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve employees, cameras will not monitor animals but the actions of scientists and researchers who enter the cave to study ancient drawings.
“Installation of automatic cameras is the last step in equipping the cave with a monitoring system. The unique monument with rock art claims to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, so there should be no complaints about the safety of the drawings and the work of our scientists. The cameras are another proof that all the actions carried out in the halls with drawings are under control,” the director of the Shulgan-Tash Cave Museum, Favzil Malikov, explained.
Autonomous cameras produce photo and video recording with sound when a motion sensor is triggered. The records indicate the exact time and date of the shooting. The recording is done on the memory card. They can work autonomously for up to six months in standby mode. The devices are made in a case with the maximum degree of climatic protection. They can withstand low temperatures down to -40 C. Night infrared illumination with a range of up to 25 meters produces a high-quality image even in complete darkness. The sensitivity of the motion detectors is adjustable; there is a display that makes it easy to set the parameters and allows viewing the footage on the spot.
