Water Tower building in Ufa is included in Unified Register of Cultural Heritage Sites

By order of October 20, 2021, the building of the identified cultural heritage site Water Tower building was included in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Objects (Historical and Cultural Monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation as an object of the cultural heritage of regional significance.

The same order approved the subject of protection, borders, and the mode of use of the territory of the cultural heritage object located at the address: Ufa, Altaiskaya Street, 4.

The Water Tower was built in 1900-1901 as part of the construction of the Ufa water supply system. Until the 1950s, the facility was used for its intended purpose - to supply water to the population of the city. In the 1960- the 1970s, the object housed the observatory of the Bashkir State University. By the end of the 1980s, the water tower was decommissioned.

The building is of historical importance for the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its construction was due to the need to supply the city of Ufa with drinking water. To this end, at the end of the 19th century, engineer S.M. Kirpichnikov designed a detailed project of the water supply of the city with water from the Belaya River. Wells were drilled at the site of the water intake. A natural filtration method was used to obtain water. Similar methods were used in the cities of France and England and were considered progressive.

The water supply was supposed to deliver water to both the population and the fire services. Its implementation was completed by June 13, 1901, when the first stage of the water supply system, including the building in question, was put into operation. The tower played a significant role in supplying drinking water to the population of the city of Ufa. At the same time, it was one of the first technically complex industrial structures associated with water supply in the Republic of Bashkortostan, dating back to the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
