Yangan-Tau Geopark hosted artisans festival

The masterclasses day was held at the Yangan-Tau Geopark in the village of Mechetlino, Salavatsky district last weekend. More than 20 artisans showed their skills and shared them with guests. One could do archery here, forge a horseshoe, cook a baursak, make one’s amulet, make a jute product, plant a Swiss pine, knit socks, felt wool, learn to play kubyz or kurai (national music instruments), make a clay figurine, buy a souvenir, ride a hot air balloon, took an excursion to the geological section of Mechetlino and much, much more. It was a great event to enjoy!
The first Yangan-Tau Geopark in Russia in the Salavat district of Bashkiria is an open-air museum, the main exhibits of which are mountains, caves, geological sections, and minerals. The Mechetlinsky section - an open mountain, where on a section of more than ten meters one can see how the layers formed over 10 million years, is of most exceptional historical value. At the end of last year, Yangan-Tau was included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. It will be officially announced in April 2020. For Bashkiria, this is advertising around the world, which means the development of international tourism, recognition, and increasing the investment attractiveness of the region. Over five years, the management of the geopark plans to increase tourist flow by three times.
