"Soyuzmultfilm" proposed promoting national brands through fairy tales

The Chairman of the board of the "Soyuzmultfilm" cartoon studio, the general director of the Gorky film studio Yuliana Slashcheva, proposed creating a series of animated films that will integrate domestic regional brands, such as, for example, Bashkir honey or Orenburg shawl. She announced the proposal in Moscow on February 14 at the 8th International Legal Forum "Legal Protection of Intellectual Property: Theory and Practice Issues" at the round table "Legal Mechanisms for Monitoring the Quality of Regional Brands and Their Protection from the Distribution of Counterfeit Products".

The Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education, and Culture Lilia Gumerova recalled that in December 2017, the Federation Council Chairman instructed each senator to register at least two regional brands.

"In 2019, compared with 2017, the number of applications filed for state registration of brands increased by almost 65 percent. Since December 2017, 74 brands have been registered," the senator reported.

She also emphasized the importance of adopting amendments to the Civil Code, which introduced a new object of intellectual property - "geographical indication" and also determined the features of its legal protection. The relevant law enters into force in July 2020. According to the senator, the registration of "geographical indication" will help bring a variety of products to the market, protect consumers from low-quality products.
