British Archive surrendered unique documents about first Soviet Envoy Karim Khakimov

In early August, the British Archive surrendered unique materials on the activities of Soviet diplomat Karim Khakimov, who made it into history as the first Plenipotentiary Envoy of the USSR in Arab countries. New disclosed facts about Karim Khakimov - the “red pasha” were discussed at a press conference at the Bashinform News Agency.

“Karim Khakimov is one of the most prominent people in Bashkortostan, and indeed the Russian Federation, the person who established the relations of the young Soviet country and the future of Saudi Arabia,” the famous publicist Shamil Valeev reminded.

The British folder is a whole body of documents provided by the archives of the British Foreign Office. These are several hundred pages devoted to the activities of Karim Khakimov in the Middle East: reports from diplomatic consulates of Great Britain and several other states, messages from British intelligence agents with a step-by-step description of Karim Khakimov’s actions, intercepted letters, correspondence of diplomatic agencies. The bulk of the documents are in English.

“The documents will be of interest to historians and scholars. We have already directed these documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. We will not submit part of the documents to the public without approval; all publications must be coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents require preliminary research by diplomats, ”says Vladislav Yusupov.

The press conference was attended by journalists, historians, writers, relatives of Karim Khakimov. They were shown scans of some documents.
