Krzysztof Zanussi: “Ethnic traditions and native language help people not to get lost in chaos”

Krzysztof Zanussi, the famous Polish director, screenwriter, producer, and philanthropist arrived in Ufa for the 4th International Silver Akbuzat Film Festival. During the festival, he held creative meetings, where he demonstrated an excellent command of the Russian language. At first, the cinema master spoke out at a round table with journalists at the Opera and Ballet Theater. Then, in the “Art Kvadrat”, urban space he talked with the participants of the festival, local filmmakers and ordinary spectators.

The history of the Silver Akbuzat film festival began with national and ethnic cinema; now it is one of the main nominations. Krzysztof Zanussi emphasized the importance of creating ethnic films and marked the wisdom of ordinary people.

The meeting with the audience was held in a warm and homely atmosphere. The director shared interesting memories of his childhood, years of study and formation and answered questions that concerned both the creativity and the philosophical views of the director. “In the modern world we still have coal and oil, but one thing that has already been exhausted is human attention,” the director emphasized and commented on every topic in detail and with a fantastic sense of humor.

The cinema maestro noted that he was open to communication and even encouraged people to visit him in Warsaw. It is known that throughout his life, Zanussi supported many novice directors. The director noted that VGIK students will come to him soon.

At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Polish Cultural and Educational Center of the Republic of Bashkortostan greeted Krzysztof Zanussi and presented him with souvenirs.
